In 1883, when Chile’s international wine industry was just emerging, Mr. Melchor Concha y Toro, a remarkable attorney, businessman, and politician, decided to take advantage of the Maipo Valley’s potential for wine production. He introduced French vines from Bordeaux and hired the famous French winemaker Monsieur Labouchere to make the winery’s first wines. Viña Concha y Toro was born of this enterprising project.
